Whoa! That Was Cool But Is My Leg Still Attached?

I went back to see Dr. Gilbert last night for a maintenance visit, something I plan on making a regular part of my routine going forward. It was pretty interesting. First of all, the good news is I tested out strong, going 6 for 6 as opposed to 0 for 6 like I did three weeks ago. At least running for 8 days didn't wreck me, which it shouldn't, but you never know with me. I told him that things had been going pretty well but that I had begun to feel my right hip some over the past couple days. He checked a few things and said he thought my hip was jammed up a little, so he did an adjustment on me that he hadn't done in a long time. It basically involves me raising and straightening my leg and then him grabbing the lower part of my leg and foot and jerking/pulling it. When he did it, I felt the weirdest pop in my hip/low back and had to double check to make sure he hadn't completely pulled my leg off - ha, ha. It was like he pulled it out 3 or 4 inches from where it was. Also, as soon as he did it, my hip felt better. It was like he relieved pressure that I didn't even know was there. I ran 8 miles afterwards and it went really well, with my form feeling smoother and more natural than it has in a while.

Anyway, I don't know exactly what he did, but I'm glad he did it and I plan on getting him to do that same adjustment when I go back in another 2-3 weeks. He also adjusted my pelvis and said it was rotated about a 2 on a scale of 0-10 (it was a 4 last visit), so that's improvement as well. He said he thought I was coming along nicely and to just keep doing what I was doing and remain on the cautious side for a while but not to worry too much about anything because everything seemed to be working pretty well and holding up fine. I really hope I'm on to something with the changes I've made and the core routine I'm doing, but only time will tell.

Speaking of time, this is it for 2008. I can't say it was a bad year and overall I certainly have nothing to complain about, but at the same time I also can't say I'll be sorry to see it go. I'll probably post a recap of this past year sometime later today or maybe tomorrow but really I'm just looking forward to moving on and having a good 2009. Happy New Year, everyone!
