What a Difference a Week Makes

This time last week the temperature was barely into the double digits and the wind chill was below zero. Today it's supposed to hit the upper 50's, maybe even low-60's, and I'll likely be running in shorts tonight. Needless to say I much prefer this week's weather!

The past week or so has also made a big difference in my fitness level, or at least my perceived fitness level. Don't get me wrong, I'm still far, far away from being ready to go out and race, much less race fast, but I'm starting to feel like a runner again. My easy pace is back to being around 7 min/mile as opposed to more like 7:20 (and even that didn't feel easy for a while), and I'm much more comfortable running regardless of the pace. I seem to have survived the 4X90 sec on Tuesday followed by a medium long run at 6:40 pace on Wednesday just fine, and I'm primed and ready for my first "real workout" tonight of 5/10/5 min at tempo pace. I have no intentions of hammering this evening's test, but instead I'll just run at a comfortably hard effort and see what happens. I'm sure it will be ugly and I'll have the pace and heart rate data to prove it, but if I come through it with no major aches or pains I'll consider it a success and a big step forward.

That's about it for me for now. I'm actually looking forward to putting this week in the books. From laying floor to starting workouts to having to stay late at work for our annual employee meeting, it's been a busy and tough one. The weekend is looking pretty jam-packed at the moment too. Hopefully I'll at least be able to squeeze in a little extra rest and then maybe things will settle down a bit next week. At any rate, hope everyone has a good one!
