So, that wasn't the week I was looking for, but now that I look at it in terms of the big picture it probably wasn't a bad time for a down week and the rest was likely good for me. I was feeling pretty worn down heading into Tuesday evening's workout and I think I'd gotten into a bad habit of running my recovery days a little too hard for what they need to be, so this gave me an opportunity to catch up a little and then get back on track while making a couple changes for the better.
Obviously there's not much to talk about as far as workouts go. Tuesday went ok in spite of the blood loss (ha, ha), but it felt terrible. Sunday's long run was a good one. Jim and Andy joined me and we did a different loop through the hills of Botetourt. The total elevation change for the run was 3,452 feet, with half that amount (1,726) being climbing. I felt pretty good from the first step to the last and ran fairly hard on one of the big climbs in the 13th mile before proceeding to hit mile 14 in 6:29, the fastest of the day. Good stuff and it felt great! My strength is definitely starting to come around, but I'm still slow, slow, slow, so that's what I've got to start working on while at the same time remembering to be patient.
Anyway, I hope to get in a much more normal week this week. With everything that's been going on I haven't been able to get with Howard for workouts, so I'm not really sure what I'll do as far as specifics. This might be a "play-it-by-ear" week. Regardless, as long as I stay on my feet and out of the doctors office, I'll be happy! Here's hoping the snow misses us and everyone has a good week.
