Hurry Up and Wait

Time for my standard late-week update. Basically I’m in about the same place I have been for a while now. I feel like I’m making progress and headed in the right direction, but still not quite over the hump yet. I’ve taken a few more days off and have some new shoes on the way as well and am hoping that will finally get me to the point where I can start training effectively again. In the meantime, all I can do is keep doing the right things and wait and see. Time will tell.

When I am able to start back, I’ve basically decided to do a Lydiard style build-up and make it fairly long and gradual. I think one thing I’ve been doing for far too long now is trying to jump back in too quickly once I get healthy, not only in terms of mileage but also adding workouts before I should. I need to go through a complete build and not skip any steps, and I think doing something Lydiard style will be perfect for that. I’ve been reading some stuff online and just got a couple tips courtesy of Jason Pyles on some books to look at, so I’m looking forward to learning more and then getting to work. I may put up a more detailed post on it all sometime in the near future.

We’ll be off to WV this weekend, something I always look forward to. I was supposed to be heading there next weekend for the CDR 15-Miler, but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Oh well. That's the way it goes sometimes. I'm gradually learning that you can't get too upset over things that are out of your control and sometimes you learn the most from things that don't work out quite the way you hoped. Those sorts of tests just make you a stronger, better person, whether it be athletically or in another walk of life. The key is to not give up, because that's when you really lose. Anyway, enough philosophy. Hope everyone has a good weekend!
