Training Summary: 7/27 - 8/2

Once again, I didn’t log a single mile, bringing me to three weeks total of complete downtime. I made a couple attempts, one on Monday and one on Wednesday, but neither went well. All I can say is I hope this is the last week I log a goose egg, and I’m optimistic that it will be. I actually think I could have gotten through a run yesterday or the day before, but I decided to just wait a couple more days to make it three full weeks in the hopes that I’ll get this knocked out once and for all.

I’ve been working on my coordination/re-training exercise as prescribed by Dr. Rich, and I definitely have some issues. I never really noticed it until he pointed it out, but since I’ve been paying attention I can tell that I don’t have as much movement/mobility in my left shoulder as I should. I did a little test jog on Saturday and really noticed it then. If the doc is right and the lack of movement there is preventing my right glute from firing, that explains a lot, including why strengthening my glutes bought me a little more time this past training “cycle” but still didn’t get me over the top.

Anyway, I’m anxious to get back to it. I’ll give it a go tonight and report back tomorrow. I almost feel like if I can get through 5 min it will be a victory, but the goal will be 10-15 (as pathetic as that is). With the time I’ve lost and the fact that I need to make some alterations to my form, it really is gonna be like starting from scratch. I just hope that this time once I get started I can build momentum and keep it going for a long, long time. Hopefully the next down time I take will be because I have completed a season, run well in my peak race(s), and am ready for a well-deserved break.
