Another week in the books, which for right now in and of itself equals success. Basically all I’m looking to do for the time being is stack day on top of day, week on top of week, and month on top of month until I build some consistency. What I do each day certainly matters, but not as much as just accumulating some work over time. Injuries seem to be holding and/or getting slightly better. I wish I could say I was 100%, but I’m still not quite there, although if the trend continues I just might be soon.
As for the week itself, it started cool and ended HOT, both in terms of the weather and the effort of the runs. I didn’t do anything significant until hitting a few strides at the end of Thursday’s run. Friday was my first “workout” since starting back, and thanks to a lack of fitness and the nearly 90 degree temps, it was ugly! Matthew and I ran on the greenway, doing 35 min at normal effort followed by 15 min up-tempo, and a 15 min c-down. I managed to hover around 6 flat pace on the up-tempo part, and while it didn’t feel easy, it wasn’t a flat out effort and probably wouldn’t have gone too bad if not for the conditions. I honestly don’t know if my mouth has ever been that dry and I only remember feeling more overheated on a few occasions. In a couple months, weather like Friday’s will feel cool, but with no acclimation time whatsoever, it was brutal on that particular day. Anyway, I closed the week out with a good, hilly long run in Fincastle with Matthew. It went well, but I’m guessing the combination of hills, tired legs, and warm conditions contributed to it feeling a little faster than it should have.
This week will be my first in a while with a formal schedule. More on that to come. Furthermore, this will be the last training summary that looks exactly like this. More on that to come as well. Hope everyone has a great week!
