At Least I'm Not Screwed (Literally)

Good news from my doctor's visit the afternoon, at least that's how I'll take it. The CT Scan showed no signs of displacement, so I won't be needing a screw inserted (hence the title to this post). Also, there's only one fracture, and while it's pretty nasty (I got another look at the x-rays), the doc said he's seen much worse, including one just this week. He examined my foot again and I had surprisingly little pain compared to what I did just a week ago. Additionally, he said it looked remarkably good and that he was a little surprised at how well I'm doing.

Now for the bad news. I don't have another visit until July 2, which also happens to be my birthday. Between now and then, I'm supposed to be totally non-weight bearing. Man, that's gonna be a long time! I'm not too upset, because I know there's no way I'm gonna be healed before then, but with the progress I made this past week, I'd kind of like to have another set of x-rays in about three weeks (1 month after the incident) rather than waiting five more weeks. I don't guess it really matters though. Like I said, no way I'll be healed before then, so hopefully I'll get a terrific birthday present that day with a report that healing is coming along nicely and I might be back to running within a few more weeks.

Anyway, not needing surgery is sort of a relief, although I still keep thinking about all the stuff I read about how athletes were often recommended to go ahead and get a screw inserted just to speed the healing. Guess my body is on it's own though, so I'll just have to take extra good care of it and hope for the best. In spite of all my problems (or maybe because of them), I've always been a fairly fast healer, and hopefully that will hold true again. Jones Fractures are notoriously difficult though, so it's gonna be a process. Doc said he wouldn't rule out giving me a bone stimulator depending on how things look in five weeks, but hopefully it won't even be necessary.

Ok, there's the update. Time to ice my foot. Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend! Remember all those veterans who gave their lives for this great country and thank the ones you know who have served. I have no greater respect than that for our military, so here's to them!

That's great news. Stuff a carpenter uses to make things should not be on the inside of our bodies!
