Made It!

I made it. I wasn’t sure I would, but I did. After six weeks on crutches, the day has finally arrived for a return visit to the doctor for new x-rays and hopefully a release to begin walking again, even if it is in a boot. As I’ve told several people now, if I don’t get released, the doc better have a darn good reason why and plenty of evidence to back it up, or I will be pulling myself off the crutches and going it on my own.

My foot has felt really good for a while now. A week or so ago most of the swelling disappeared (almost overnight), and I haven’t had any problems since. The past couple days I’ve tested it out a few times by putting all my weight on it and also even walking a little, all with no pain whatsoever. I’m really hopeful that means I’m good to go, but I guess I’ll know more this evening.

I have no delusions that I’ll be heading out to run over the weekend or even anytime soon. Even if I’m told that I can begin some weight bearing again, I realize this will be a long, slow process. I’ll have to start out with a limited amount of walking, progress to where I’m actually walking for a “workout,” and then finally to a point where I can begin slow, short jogs. Still, at this point, just being able to walk around the house and to and from work will seem like a major victory.

Big sports weekend coming up and I’m looking forward to it. Tomorrow morning is the start of the Tour de France, and then in the afternoon there is the Pre Classic. Both should be exciting. I’ll be surprised if it happens, but I really want to see an American record in the 5k taking place on US soil on the 4th of July weekend. That would be awesome! Come on Teg and Solinsky!

I’ll post an update sometime tonight or in the morning regarding the doctor’s visit. Good luck to all those hitting the 4th of July races, and I hope everyone has a great weekend! In true American spirit, find (or make) some fireworks and blow some stuff up, just be safe doing it!
