This was a decent week of training and would have been a really good one if I hadn’t missed Tuesday and had been able to squeeze in a workout of some sort elsewhere in the week. As is, sometimes things happen that are beyond your control and more important than running, and that’s what’s happened to me the past couple of weeks. Hopefully things will normalize this coming week and I can get back on it going forward.
Not a whole lot to cover in terms of details for the week. Wednesday was supposed to be workout number one of the week with a Saturday race planned as the other hard effort, but after Tuesday’s events, I really didn’t have the physical or mental energy to do anything too taxing, so Andrew and I hit up a fairly hilly medium long run instead. Overall it turned out to be a pretty good effort, and I haven’t done a lot of medium long runs lately, a type of run that I think does a great job of bridging the gaps in training, so maybe it was a good thing that it worked out the way it did. Friday I debated a track workout but ultimately decided that about all I felt I could muster was the drills and strides day that I was supposed to do on Tuesday. The strides actually turned out better than I thought they might, so altogether it was another decent day even if it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for or anything all that hard. I finished the week out with a Sunday long run in Craig Country near Oriskany. Andrew and I headed back there looking for the old train bed that we had tried to find a few weeks ago. This time we found it, and man was it a great place to run! It was net downhill the direction we ran out, meaning we had to climb all the way back, but we had soft surfaces, shade, and scenic views, and it’s definitely a place I want to go back to in the future, especially since it’s not that far of a drive.
Anyway, as I said earlier, I’m hoping to get back to normal this week, although I’ve got some thinking to do in terms of the direction of my training. I had planned on racing 5k’s each of the last two weekends and had another planned for this weekend, but I’ve missed the last two and the one this week has been canceled by the race organizers, so now I’m left to figure out what’s next. Between that and the summer heat/humidity, it might be time to take things in a slightly different direction in preparation for a good fall. More to come.
