So tomorrow morning I’ll be toeing the line at a race for just the second time this year and only the third time since last August. I’m pretty excited about it, especially since I’m finally feeling good and training well, but at the same time I’m a little nervous for obvious reasons.
I’ve spent a little time the past couple days thinking about what sort of goals I should have for this race, and I’ve finally decided that the only goal I should even consider is to just go out, run hard, and have fun. Sure I would like to run a decent time, but I have to remember that just 7 weeks ago I wasn’t even able to run five miles (I logged a total of 4 the week of 4/20-26 and just 22 the week after that), so just being able to go out and race is more than enough for now.
Anyway, I’ll check back in as soon as I can with a race recap. Don’t expect anything exciting though. I’m not fit enough yet to really get after it nor am I willing to risk a setback to do so. I’m also going to be racing on tired legs. This has been another solid week of training, more so than I had originally planned. Wednesday’s workout was a little on the fast side and my total mileage is gonna wind up within 5 miles of what it’s been being, but it’s all good. I’m having a lot of fun training with a good group of guys right now, and this race is nothing more than another step in the process of getting fit. I’ve already asked Leslie to remind me of all that when I cross the line and immediately start fussing about not doing any better - ha, ha. Who knows though. Maybe I’ll surprise myself. Regardless I plan on enjoying it and being thankful that I’m able to be out there mixing it up. Wish me luck!
