So, I was reading Michael Wardian’s blog and made a few observations:
I’ll start with the one he intended people to make. I used to put a lot of focus on my age and spent way too much time worrying about it. However, slowly but surely over the past couple of years, I’ve come to the realization that I can take two approaches. I can use it as an excuse and let it limit me, or I can just forget about it, do my best, and see what happens. I’ve decided to do the latter. Between the fact that I didn’t start running until my sophomore year in college and all the injuries I’ve had over the years, I’ve got a lot less mileage in me than most people my age. Additionally, I see lots of “older” runners running PR’s and ridiculously fast times, so if they can do it why can’t I. I’m just gonna train hard (and smart) and see where it takes me, trying to have as much fun as possible in the process.
Now on to a couple other observations I made from Mr. Wardian’s blog. You mean to tell me that John Crews, a local boy from nearby Rockbridge County, stopped during the race to go to the bathroom and still ran 2:19 and change, narrowly missing a Trials qualifier. I was already impressed, and now I’m even more so! Dude is just 24 and Vermont was only his second marathon. He could really do something in the years to come.
Finally, Wardian never ceases to amaze me. Now it looks like he’s gonna race the World 100k in Belgium then come back the next weekend and do the Western States 100 miler, one of the most grueling races out there. Good luck with that. What a nutcase!

Keep the faith, Steve. You motivated me to run harder and faster. Your times a couple of years ago were surreal for the hilly races you were running. As I turned 30, I could tell lots of different things going on with my body as well; I now include some functional movement stuff into the routine and I am slowly feeling better.

Thanks, Nick. I appreciate it. I think I'm slowly but surely getting things figured out so I can get back where I want to be. We'll see. Just gonna have fun with it and see what happens. Take care.
