As promised I wanted to check in with an update on how my attempt to run went last night. I’m happy to report that I was able to make it through two WHOLE miles – ha, ha. That’s 15 miles less than the last run I had done three weeks earlier, but two more than I’d run the last 21 days combined, so I guess I need to look at the bright side.
For the most part I felt ok and would have to say that it probably went better than expected. My hip felt fine from start to finish. My hamstring was a little balky, but it never did seize up and actually seemed to feel better as I went. I think it just needs to realize that my hip is ok now and it doesn’t have to cramp up in order to protect it. I tried to concentrate on my form and in particular on making sure I moved my left arm/shoulder. I definitely had to force it a little, and my arm actually felt kind of funny (almost like it was a little sore) when I finished. That clues me in to the fact that it really is an issue and something I’m gonna have to work on.
At any rate, I walked for 5 min after I finished running and also iced my hip not too long after finishing. Everything felt fine the rest of the night, which was also a good sign. I’ve felt a few twinges walking around today but nothing significant. I can’t tell if it’s anything to be concerned about or just me being overly cognizant of that area. Even if it is good to go, which I’m not sure of yet, I’m sure I’ll have a little soreness and discomfort to work through, so my plan is to give it another go tonight and see what happens. Hopefully it’s a start, but only time will tell, and it will be several days before I know whether or not I’m ready to run again or need a few more days recovery. That said, I’m just gonna be cautious, play it by ear, and hope for the best.

Steve,
Thanks to your blog and writing, I went to see Oasis yesterday and Dr. Rich made a difference with my bursitis in my heel that i've struggled with. Heal up!

Awesome, man! Glad to hear it. Hopefully we'll both be out there hammering away soon.
