Total: 59.5 miles

Since last week was the first week I was able to train without interruption, I consider this most recent week to be week two of this training block, and it went very well. I was able to increase my mileage over the previous week and the average pace of my runs got faster as well. My average heart rate came down too, and while it’s still far too high for the paces I’m running, that’s a good sign as well. Furthermore, my body seems to be holding up and getting stronger every day. The hip pain that knocked me out two months ago is all but gone now. I’ve got a little soreness in my left shin, but it seems to be improving and I’m confident it’s just a side effect of getting back into things. For now, I’m ahead of schedule and all systems are go.

In terms of specifics from this past week, I started off with a terrible run on Monday where I just felt like garbage. However, I think most of that was simply being worn out from all the events of the weekend trip to Atlanta, so after a day to recover I felt much better on Tuesday. I was also able to get back to running with a group this week and that helped tremendously. I had company on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and runs are always easier and more fun when you’re not by yourself. Of course you also have things happen like Thursday when Andy decided to trash talk some cigarette smoking high schoolers by telling them they couldn’t even last half a mile with us. They were crazy enough to make an attempt, and while they were unsuccessful, I do admire the one guy for being able to rejoin the pack after he had to go back and pick up the pack of Marlboros that fell out of his pocket. Funny stuff!

Anyway, that’s enough for now. I’m going to try to do a better job of keeping my blog a little more active. I had several posts I wanted to make this past week but just didn’t get them done for one reason or another. Hopefully I’ll do better going forward and I hope everyone has a great week!
