Back in the Saddle???

Well, I've managed to run the last two days in a row and see no reason why today won't be a third. By no means am I declaring myself healed, but early returns seem to be positive.

My first run on Tuesday just felt downright weird. Guess that's what happens when you only run four times over an 8-week period. My form felt off, and my fitness level seemed closer to a 250-lb pack-a-day smoker than a 130-lb distance runner. Form and fitness weren't my main concerns though. My shin was, and it did pretty well. I felt it a little, but nothing like in past attempts, and it wasn't achy afterward either, which is a good sign.

Yesterday, I felt my shin a little when I got up and while I was walking around during the morning, which had me concerned. However, it felt as good or better than the day before during my run (a massive 20 min as opposed to 16 the day before), so I was encouraged by that. I haven't run yet today, but it seems like it's as good or better than yesterday, so I'm hopeful that I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

Having suffered through several stress fractures before, I'm fully prepared to have a little pain along the way. I know I have a ton of scar tissue that I'm going to have to work through, and it will take a while to get past it. As long as things continue as they have the past couple days, I'll stay on it, proceeding with a lot of caution. I hate to think how far I have to go to get back in shape, but work doesn't scare me and I know as long as I'm smart this time and keep myself healthy I will get there. Almost a new year. 2010. Bring it!
