Quick update on my attempt to run last night. Unfortunately it was a no go. In spite of being fine walking around the past couple days, it hurt from the very first step, leading me to bag it after just 30 sec or so. Since I’m pretty sure I caused this by trying to run through the last bit of remaining shin pain from my stress fracture, I’ve learned my lesson and will not start back until I am 100% pain free. I’m anxious to resume training, but I want to do things right from the very start this time rather than repeating the same mistakes I’ve made over and over in the past. To top it all off, I slept wrong or something Sunday night and now have some pretty severe neck and upper back pain. I’m basically a physical wreck and really starting to feel old. It’s frustrating, but I guess on the bright side I’m missing all this snow/ice.
Changing subjects, I just have to go off on all this crap about how Peyton Manning is a poor sport because he didn’t go around shaking everyone’s hand after losing the Super Bowl Sunday night. Give me a break! I’ve always been a Peyton Manning fan, and in addition to being a heckuva football player, he has always been a class act. It’s pretty easy to tell that he is also ultra competitive, which in spite of what the media might tell you is not a bad thing. I’ve never participated in anything even remotely as important as the Super Bowl, but I am ultra competitive, so I can say with confidence that I’m pretty sure Peyton Manning was not thinking “I’m gonna disrespect the Saints by not shaking their hands. I’ll show them!” Instead, I’m guessing he was just very disappointed and frustrated and probably wanted to disappear after throwing an interception that ultimately sealed his team’s fate. I’m also guessing the Saints weren’t thinking “Man, where is Peyton Manning? He’s such a poor sport. This is ruining my celebration.” In the end, he got off the field and out of the way and no one was hurt. He also avoided the stupid post-game interviews you always see where the interviewer tries to make the player feel as bad as possible. “Peyton, you just threw an interception and blew the biggest game in the world. What are you thinking right now and how do you feel after letting your team and all the fans down?” This is just the media trying to blow a non-story out of proportion. I’ve even seen talk of him being fined and of him ruining his legacy. Ridiculous!
Anyway, that’s my rant for the day. Time to settle down and do something productive (like ice my knee)!
