The Present and the Past

First off, back to the doc this afternoon for new x-rays on my foot. Pretty excited to see how things look, but at the same time not too concerned about what he'll have to say. I have a plan now, and as long as things continue to go well, I'm going to continue to carry out that plan. Along those lines, walks of 2.75 miles (48 min) and 3 miles (52 min) the past two days, and aside from a nasty blister, all is not only well but feeling better every day!

Ok, as promised, here’s one of my training weeks from years past. This was actually my highest week ever, although I don’t consider it to be my craziest. I’ll post that one later. Leading up to this, I had done weeks of 96, 97, 90, 107, 101, 109, 71 (race), and 103 (race), so it wasn’t like this was way out of line for what I’d been doing. However, I did wind up hurt not too long afterward. Imagine that! There were no actual workouts this week, mainly because of the conditions (lots of snow). I think that’s why I ended up running a little higher mileage in the hopes the extra quantity would help make up for the lack of quality. Anyway, this is February 24 – March 2, 2003, and I’m posting each day plus the comments I put in my log:

Monday, February 24
AM: 5 – Legs tired but been worse
PM: 9.5 – Wildwood plus add-on before and after. Legs dead but several miles in the 6:20’s and 30’s

Tuesday, February 25
AM: 5.5 – No aches or pains but legs don’t seem to be recovering from race on Sat
PM: 11 – Had to bag planned workout thanks to steady snow. Just got in what I could.

Wednesday, February 26
AM: 5.5 – Roads slushy but manageable. Felt decent but left calf was a little tight.
PM: 11 – On the treadmill due to more snow. Set it on a 1% incline and ran most everything 6:22-6:35 pace.

Thursday, February 27
AM: 9.5 – Roads pretty slick but got through it ok
PM: 6.5 – On the treadmill again with most everything in the 6:20’s

Friday, February 28
AM: 5.5 – Really getting tired of snow and I think it’s aggravating my calf
PM: 11 – Version of the River Loop in Salem. Finally some semi-clear roads. Relaxed effort but pace was decent, probably in the 6:30’s.

Saturday, March 1
AM: 9.5 – Standard loop from the house. Legs tired/heavy and left shin hurt some.
PM: 5.5 – In Salem including a good bit on the track. Actually felt pretty good.

Sunday, March 2
AM: 19 – Long loop from the house plus a little add-on. Solid pace throughout. Felt decent and still had a good bit in the tank at the end. TTR = 2:04:45 for an average of 6:34 pace.

Total: 114 miles
