Update

Just a quick post to recap yesterday afternoon's doctor's visit. The new x-rays looked really good. It was pretty amazing to compare them to the ones taken just 5 weeks ago. They take 3 separate images, all from different angles, and the amount of improvement in all 3 was dramatic. In fact, one of the angles didn't even show the fracture at all.

The doctor's official diagnosis was that clinically it looks good and seems to be healing nicely. He then told me to keep doing what I've been doing for 4 more weeks, after which he wants to see me again for a new set of x-rays. I have no problem with that whatsoever. Of course, he thinks I've been completely non-weight bearing and wants to keep me that way, but hey, what he doesn't know won't hurt him and obviously what I've been doing is working just fine.

In all seriousness, I've thought all along this guy was WAY too conservative, and yesterday really confirmed that. It was actually kind of funny listening to him when he was trying to convince me it was still pretty vulnerable yet he couldn't even find the fracture line in the one x-ray. He was like "You can see here....uhhhhh....well.......there's still evidence of the fracture." I think his philosophy is until he can't see the fracture line in any of the x-rays I need to stay completely off of it, which is an old-school philosophy that goes against just about everything you see and hear nowadays. I'm sure if he knew what all I'd been doing he'd freak, but again, not even he can deny that things are healing nicely, so it's all good.

Anyway, I was pretty pleased with my visit. The x-rays looked as good or maybe even better than what I was hoping for, so I will continue along the path I've been going. In fact, after a quick stop to watch Kaitlyn's dance class for a bit, I headed out for another 3 mile walk right after my appointment. I felt really good right from the start, maybe thanks to getting good news, and even hammered out a sub-16 last mile - ha, ha. Not sure when I'll try to add in some running. Probably won't be for a few more days, but won't be all that much longer.

I'll conclude with props to Chris Solinksy. Dude is a beast! After yesterday, his last 4 races have been a 26:59 10k then 3 5k's of 12:56, 13:07, and 12:55. The 13:07 was an off day - ha, ha. Even the letsrun crowd is having to admit he's the real deal. Hopefully a new American record in the 5k is just around the corner.

Have a great weekend!
