Regional Race Coverage

One of the things that I’ve always wanted is better coverage of local running, and not just local as in the Roanoke area, but basically everything within a couple hours of the valley, so essentially Southwest Virginia and Southern West Virginia. There are some great sites around that cover running in Northern Virginia, all of West Virginia, various portions of Tennessee, North Carolina, etc., but nothing much at all for this region. That said, I’m hoping to do at least a little something about that.

Now, let me preface this by saying I don’t know how well this will work out, and I don’t have plans for it to turn into anything major. I’m busier than ever at work, have a family, and devote a decent chunk of time to my own running and racing, so there’s only so much time for me to do this. However, I’m hoping to use my blog to provide at least a little coverage of regional racing. To make it easily searchable, I’ll be creating a tag for SWVA/SWV Distance Running (as in Southwest Virginia/Southern West Virginia) and hoping to have semi-frequent posts using that tag. During the part of the year where there are races just about every weekend, I’d like to have at least a weekly post on either Tue or Wed with results from area races, then other posts as I have time with recaps of races, “articles” or snippets on runners from the area who are doing really well either in high school, college, or on the roads, and maybe even an interview or two here and there.

Obviously there's not a lot of racing going on at this point in the year, so things will get off to a slow start accordingly, but if I can get this going, I hope word will spread and people will get excited about following area distance running. Who knows, perhaps one day it could even turn into its own separate blog or site. Again, with my busy schedule, the whole idea may flop, but I figured I’d at least give it a shot, so stay tuned and we’ll see where it goes.

Their certainly is a dearth of coverage around this area, so anything is better than what we have. Runwashington.com has been my go-to page for "local" information....and that's not very local.
