Well, I’m beginning to sound like a broken record, but once again, I had another sub-par week of training. I feel like the reason for my latest problem likely started a couple weeks ago. Even though I tried to be patient and missed a full week of running accordingly, I was pretty darn sick and believe I may have come back too quickly and therefore started out in a hole that I never could dig out of. Regardless, it’s been frustrating to say the least.
The week started out ok, with the first two days going according to plan, although I was actually hoping to double at least one of those days but ultimately skipped doing so because I just didn’t feel up to it. Wednesday was supposed to be a workout on the track, but I put it off due to how windy it was. To be honest, I also didn’t really feel like trying to run fast, so that was additional motivation to delay the workout a day. However, all that aside, once I got going in that run I was glad I didn’t attempt anything faster. For some reason, my right achilles, which I always feel at least a little, flared up and bothered me more than usual. It continued to be inflamed on Thursday, so I went shorter than usual and took it extra easy that day.
When Friday rolled around, my achilles was still acting up, and between that, the cool, breezy weather, and just a general lack of motivation, I pulled the plug at three miles. Honestly I just didn’t have the willpower to fight with it. Accordingly, I took Saturday completely off.
On Sunday, I actually felt pretty good. I think the combination of a couple short, easy runs followed by a day off did me good in more ways than one. Like I mentioned earlier, even though I don’t feel like I went crazy or anything, I believe I started to run a couple days sooner than I should have when I was coming off being sick. I think my body was still recovering from the illness and just couldn’t catch up with what I was throwing at it. Hopefully giving it a few days to regroup was just what the doctor ordered!
So, here I am again stating that it’s time for me to get serious with my training. Thus far I’ve hit some sort of roadblock almost every week this year. I figure I’m due for a string of good luck sooner or later, and here’s hoping it starts now. Onward!
